The bees play an essential part of our ecosystem, and if they were to go extinct, there would be drastic results.
Since bees are the most important pollinators of crops, the current use of pesticides are reducing the growth of cross pollinated crops. Bees pollinate more than 30% of our crops, and 90% of our wild plants to thrive. This means that if bees were to go extinct, produce like, cucumbers, cherries, pumpkins, oranges, blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, avocados, and much more, would become very scarce. Additionally, the cows that are fed with grass and plants, would become limited, meaning less cheese, milk, and beef. Vitamin A is found in many fruits and vegetables, and malnutrition around the world is attributed to the lack of Vitamin A. Without Vitamin A, it can lead to blindness, and increased death rates for people with diseases like malaria. Imagine what it would be like without the produce that provide us with Vitamin A now. Without these pollinated crops, iron, calcium, folate, and zinc would not be available to local communities as well. |
